BILLINGS, MT – In the final dual of the regular season, the #9 University of Providence men's wrestling team defeated Montana State Northern 28-14 in Billings Thursday night.
The Argos got down 6-0 early before T. J. Baun (141 lbs.) got a big win in the third match of the night. Shonn Roberts (149 lbs.) and Casey Dobson (157 lbs.) recorded back to back pins to give the Argos the lead. Jordan Komac (165 lbs.) defeated Nakoda Seigel in a tough match. Hayden Schrull (184 lbs.) sealed the deal with a pin before Justin Harbison (285 lbs.) closed the dual out with a major decision.
"We had a great effort tonight," interim head coach Steve Komac said. "The biggest difference was the bonus points we got. I'm very proud of the efforts tonight. Anytime you get a win over the Lights you are wrestling well."
The dual took place in Billings a night before the Montana High School State Wrestling kicks off tomorrow. The dual was packed with tons of wrestling fans from around the state. The night kicked off with a special performance of the National Anthem by Tayah Beeman, the daughter of Argo alum Josh and Kaneesha Beeman.
"The event as a whole was a huge success," Komac said. "I want to give a special thanks to Coach Josh Beeman and Mark Sulser for all their efforts to put on this event, and all the other volunteers that came out from the Billings wrestling community tonight to help out. It was just an outstanding event for the state of Montana and something that I hope we can continue. And Tayah can really sing and we were delighted to have her help us out tonight."
The Argos will next compete at the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament on Feb. 21 in Atheron, California.
