INDIANAPOLIS - The 2021 National Agricultural Proficiency Awards were named in preparation of the National Convention. Peter Johnson, a 2021 graduate from Simms High School, was named the winner of the Turf Grass Management Entrepreneurship Award in the state of Montana. He was awarded A National bronze medal for 2021.
Peter runs a lawn mowing business in the Valley and Great Falls. He took over the business from his brother Kaleb in 2018. As the primary owner he organizes customers, maintains equipment, and organizes laborers. Currently he has three employees and himself mowing. They mow approximately 30 lawns a week but have some specialty customers that they do one or two mowings per season on native type grasses. Overall they service nearly 60 customers a season.
He will receive a cash award and bronze award pin from the National Sponsor, John Deere for his efforts.
Agricultural Proficiency Awards honor FFA members who, through supervised agricultural experiences(SAEs), have developed specialized skills that they can apply toward their future careers. Students compete in areas ranging from agricultural communications to wildlife management. Proficiency awards are also recognized at local and state levels and provide recognition to members exploring and becoming established in agricultural career pathways.
