Speech & Drama Season Success

Power-Dutton-Brady’s 5-member speech and drama team, consisting of 2 first-timers and 3 seniors, achieved division success against much larger teams with their third place Northern Division Class C Speech trophy at the Divisional Tournament in Malta, January 19. Placing in the top 6 competitors advanced students to the State Class B-C tournament, January 26-27 in Three Forks. Team points for the wins were accumulated by all team members progressing to finals and the following individual honors: Joey Zylks, 1st Place in Dramatic Oral Interpretation; Hope Smelser, 1st Place in Extemporaneous Speaking; Conan Rehm, 4th Place in Dramatic Solo; and Jazzmyn Ewing, 4th Place in Informative Speaking.

Hope and Joey will compete in their respective events at the National Qualifier in Billings on February 8 and 9. Only the top two in each event advance to the National Tournament in Dallas in June, but with more than $50,000 scholarship money at stake, the two are ready for the challenge.
