The Trunk-or-Treat will be held from 6-8 p.m. on the road between the Town Park and Fairfield Community Hall. “We are hoping this will add something fun for the youngsters in Fairfield before or after they come to the costume judging and visiting private homes on Halloween,” Allesha Lear, chairwoman of the event.

“Trunk-or-treat is a safe and convenient way for kids to trick-or-treat and perfect way for business not open the evening of Halloween or for rural home owners or those in town who don’t have many children come trick or treating to their house to share in the fun of Halloween,” she added.

Those interested in participating decorate the trunk of a vehicle, a trailer, table, etc., and hand out candy. Set up is open anytime after noon.

Fairfield Junior Women’s Club is sponsoring the new event with financial help from the Fairfield Lions. Those participating in the new event will not only have the fun of giving out candy but can compete for prize money. First-place winner will receive $75, second $50 and third $25. Oct. 30 is the deadline to reserve a spot.

The Trunk-or-Treating will work great with the annual children’s Halloween costume contest held at the Community Hall. Judging will take place at 6:30 p.m. Contest judging is open to children through the sixth grade with a special category for whole families that are dressed up in costumes. Prizes will be awarded to the top four picks the four age categories, 0-3-year-olds, 4-year-olds to kindergarten, first, second and third graders and fourth, fifth and sixth graders and a gift certificate for the winning family.
