Fishing Restrictions on Sun River Lifted

An area resident takes a snapshot of a tractor tire/wheel that was unable to pass under the bridge due to high water. The bridge (S. Manchester Road) crosses the Sun River.

Fishing restrictions on the Sun River were lifted at 2 p.m., Sept. 1, state fisheries officials have announced.

The Sun and Smith rivers in central Montana were closed July 27 to daily fishing from 2 p.m. to midnight because of increased water temperatures.

With longer and cooler nights, the restriction has been lifted for the Sun.

However, the fishing restriction remains for the Smith River from the confluence of the North and South forks to Eden Bridge south of Great Falls.
