Last month, after taking photos at the Valley Fun Day in Simms, I took the long way home and paid a visit to Historic Fort Shaw. I planned to get a few photos of the rummage sale items that were still on sale - but I noticed that the Fort Commander’s Quarters was open to the public. I took a tour of the quarters with a Sun River Valley Historical Society volunteer. At top is the dining room while the kitchen can be seen in the photo below.
Beyond the kitchen, through the open door, is a pantry that also served as the apartment for the Fort Commander’s Chinese cook. For more information about the fort, call 965-3025, or e-mail the Sun River Valley Historical Society at srvhs @ outlook.com. Darryl L. Flowers/Sun Times photos
