Teton County Montana Sign

Neighbors Helping Neighbors has had a very productive 2018, and this report will help you understand our mission on behalf of lower income families in Teton County.  Our total financial assistance given in 2018 was $25,624.52.  Because of our volunteer commitment, we are proud of our low expenses, and some families continue to help us by doing small ‘paybacks’ or acts of kindness for others in our community. Their gifts back to NHN this year totaled $1,747.25.

Financial assistance for basics -- rents, mortgages, and utilities -- totaled $8,962.02 and helped 17 families.  Gift cards worth $5,841.04 helped 74 Choteau, Dutton, Fairfield, and Power families with extra food, gas, school supplies, clothes, and shoes.

Major appliances and repair work totaling $2,563.05 assisted five families. Three families received help with medical or dental bills totaling $1,710.00.  Eleven cords of firewood were purchased for four families at $1,750.00.  Baby supplies and diapers for the Teton County WIC program totaled $1,131.41. Financial counseling for three families came to $200. For other families we donated $297 for tires and $200 for a CHS activity card.

Our special projects included: $200 to the Teton County Ministerial Association ‘transient fund’; $300 to the Power American Legion Auxiliary scholarship; $150 to the Choteau Art Studio Art camp; $2000 to our library ‘solar’ project which will help the Teton County Food Pantry; and NHN is donating $320 to sponsor four places for Choteau School staff for the workshop “Ending Bias, Bigotry, and Racism--Skills and Strategies You Can Use” that will be held in March 2019.

NHN tries to keep updated on current resources, and our first goal is to refer families to any existing organizations.   We receive permission from families to check references and to explore individual family budgets to look for ways that families can be sustainable, although we’re sorry to be unable to take on crisis situations.

Our sincere thanks to all the individuals and organizations who have offered donations to Neighbors Helping Neighbors.  We continue to be grateful for the generosity from our community that has given help and hope to families with challenging financial struggles. Donations can be made to NHN, PO Box 303, Choteau MT 59422.
