The Fairfield All School Reunion that was scheduled to coincide with 2020 Swim Day has been canceled.
Marci Shaw, with the All School Reunion Committee, told the Sun Times that the group made the decision based on “all the unknowns,” in particular, how long the pandemic will last. Marci said that the committee also discussed how long it would take for people to feel comfortable traveling and would the community be put at risk by having such a large gathering of visitors?
“We all agreed that we needed to make a decision sooner rather than later, and, as difficult as it was, we made the decision to postpone until next year. We are hopeful things will have settled down by then and people will look forward” to coming back to Fairfield.
The committee had planned to send out post cards to reach out to Fairfield High School graduates, but as the COVID-19 outbreak developed, they put the mailing on hold for now and did a social media blitz, which had a great response and created a lot of excitement, according to Marci.
Asked where the most distant graduate that has responded was from, Marci said, “We have a couple from Florida who were hoping to make it.”
The rescheduled reunion would be the fourth All School Reunion. The first was held in 1990, followed by gatherings in 2000 and 2010. “Every time we’ve been amazed by the turnout. And, given the need to postpone it for a year, I fully expect a very large convocation of Eagles to come home to the nest in 2021!,” said Marci, Asked how eager Eagles can stay tapped into plans for the 2121 event, Marci said the group will be updating their Facebook page. The page can be found at https://bit.ly/2KmgUGQ. “Keep visiting that page and be sure to give each other a call or an email occasionally! You’ll want to talk to your “old” pals to make plans for the reunion!” People can also contact the group via email, firstname.lastname@example.org
Marci closed by saying, “We really want to thank everyone for their understanding of the situation. We ask everyone to please try to include July 15-17, 2021 in their plans for next summer! And, never forget -- Once an Eagle, Always an Eagle!”
