Fort Shaw

OLD INSULATION - When the walls were uncovered for restoration in a room that is part of the remaining officers’ quarters, it was discovered that tents - dating back to the Civil War era - had been used as insulation against the cold winds that blow through the Sun River Valley. The room is believed to have been occupied by the “striker,” the person in charge of maintaining the fires.

The next meeting of the SRVHS (Sun River Valley Historical Society) will be held on March 4, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Community Center in Fort Shaw. Our newsletter will be out in a couple weeks so be looking for that.

We are working on another sign, “Frozen Hill,” for the Fort. Five signs are finished and will be installed next spring.

There will be an update on the progress being made in the Commanding Officers Building, restoring it and furnishing it with the many donations from this past year. It is very elegant!

Come see and hear all that has been happening this winter.

Door prizes and refreshments provided.
