Learn how to use maps in your family quest, proven data examination and timeline techniques, and ways to organize yourself to write your family story.  Explore major databases, learning best ways to search within these records.

Genealogy III: Using U.S. Censuses, 1790-1940

Cordingley Room, Public Library. GFGS Members $5.00, Non-members $10.00.

This workshop will primarily cover the U.S. Censuses, 1790—1940, including the special schedules         (manufacturing, mortality, agriculture, for example). Also, which states have state censuses available. German, British, Canadian, Scandinavian censuses will also be reviewed, briefly.

Genealogy IV Citizenship: Immigration and Naturalization.

Cordingley Room, Public Library. GFGS Members $5.00, Non-members $10.00.

Learn how to find immigration/emigration data, and how to get your ancestor’s naturalization documents.  How might you find ship arrivals? Knowing the specific laws when your ancestor immigrated or was naturalized affects the records you may find. For example, how and why did American-born women lose their U.S. citizenship? How did they regain that citizenship?  Why were the Japanese and Chinese often detained?
